What's running on port 3001 on Mac, and how to stop it
Usually: Usually a second Next.js or React dev server that found 3000 already in use.
See what's on port 3001
Open Terminal and run:
lsof -nP -iTCP:3001 -sTCP:LISTEN
The first column is the app, the second its PID (process ID).
Stop it
kill <PID>
If it's still listed a few seconds later, use kill -9 <PID>. Or stop whatever is on 3001 in one go:
kill $(lsof -t -iTCP:3001 -sTCP:LISTEN)
If you didn't mean to run two, the one on 3000 is probably an old one you forgot.
