The best ways to track Claude Code usage on Mac

Claude Code counts usage in windows of about five hours plus a weekly cap. Here are the ways to see it, from built-in to always on screen.

The options

  • Built in: type /usage in Claude Code, or open claude.ai → Settings → Usage. Exact, but only when you ask.
  • From the terminal: ccusage, a free command-line tool that reads Claude Code's local log files and reports tokens and estimated cost by day or session.
  • In the menu bar: CodexBar, a free, open-source menu bar app that shows session and weekly limits and reset times for Claude Code, Codex and other tools.
  • On your desktop: Pump, from Spritefolk. A pixel fuel pump that shows how much Claude and Codex you have left, side by side, and when each refills. It reads the local usage files, so nothing leaves your Mac.

Making it last longer

Start a fresh session (/clear) for each new task, keep big files out of context, and use a lighter model for simple work. More: the 5-hour limit, explained.
